Augsburg Central Station 2019 – Photorealistic renderings to inform the public about the future of Augsburg Central Station

Augsburg Central Station is undergoing refurbishment due to be completed in 2019. At present in 2014, connecting between trains and the tram system is very complex. The new station will have a large intermediate level and a new tramway station below that. For the first time pedestrians will have a direct pathway from the city to the Thelott quarter at the rear side of the station. In their bachelor thesis Fabian Thiem, Joachim Sommer and Johannes Rauch created a detailed 3D-model using the original reconstruction maps. They worked in cooperation with the responsible architect at Stadtwerke Augsburg to be as close as possible to the projected construction. The photorealistic renderings will be used by Stadtwerke Augsburg to inform the public about the future building plans, including the tram station, the intermediate level and the train platforms.
